Why Do Newbie Americans Go Democrat?

I’ve often puzzled over why many of my Naturalized American friends, with clearly traditional Conservative values, gravitate to Liberalism and the Democrat party. Here they are in America, exactly because they had to “escape” their former government’s dangerously oppressive policies and behaviors. Remarkably, they seem to overlook the fact that the Liberals/Democrats in America act increasingly like the tyrants, ego-maniacs, dictators, and cowardly thugs back home.
Fortunately, my foreign-born friends are beginning to question the “big government” threat, that now resides in Washington. Don’t get confused here. These thoughts apply to American Citizens that have come to America from another country, completed the Naturalization process and pledged allegience to the United States. It doesn’t apply to aliens that in the United States illegally. If you are a Liberal reading this story, I suppose you should include your intergalactic friends, in this category, as well.
The Natural Order
The natural order, outside America, is one of overbearing Socialist leaning governments, at best and corrupt, murderous dictatorial regimes, at worst. There are precious few exceptions. Kingdoms and royalty rule the rest of the mix and can occasionally be benevolent. Africa, the Middle East, and South America all illustrate that they very often are not.
Perhaps, my friends are not yet comfortable openly speaking out about how our government operates. Being accustomed to “rest of the World” ways makes them reluctant to challenge officials and they are easily silenced when labeled racist, intolerant, or any number of derogatory names, in spite of the fact that they may be Black, Hispanic, Irish, or whatever. After all, America “welcomed” them in. Best to “live and not cause waves,” in their new home.
One of my foreign-born, naturalized, American friends actually told me that he doesn’t always feel that he has the same rights, as I do. He and I go back over 20 years. Rest assured that I respectfully reminded him that he is now considered second generation American, even though some of his early years were ruled by Castro.
Liberals, of course, have long realized that naturalized American Citizens, have vulnerable “newbie” viewpoints that keep them silent, in spite of constitutionally guaranteed First Amendment rights. I can see where it could be hard to leave all remnants of Socialist influenced thinking behind, when much of the World is that way.
Providing Your Needs
With government controlling virtually all activities, in the old country, it may be difficult to reconcile the fact that America has never been that way. The bustle of America’s unique prosperity and endless distractions, makes it incredibly easy to get lulled back into the “government rules all” way of thinking. Liberals, certainly promote this brazenly oppressive rhetoric, to their advantage.
In America my friends can enjoy life. They have no worry that a government sponsored “associate” will wake them in the middle of the night and demand the keys to their delivery truck. They can travel around the country without having “papers” at every state border. They don’t have to constantly keep looking over their shoulder, to see if big brother is watching. At least not yet.
The end result is that keeping an eye on government itself, falls through the cracks. Liberal and their politicians, of course, assure my friends that they are nothing like the other tyrants and that they have the interests of the people, at heart.
Why would my naturalized friends have any reason to doubt the Liberals. After all, the American dream promises fairness, freedom, prosperity, and a better life. This great country would never oppress, punish, or tyrannically control its own citizens! Things like that happen back home…not here. Without doubt, that belief is increasingly dangerous and applicable only on another planet.
The Constitution
I always thought that most foreigners, making the effort to become American Citizens, would be familiar with the United States Constitution. I thought they understood the reasons for specifically spelling out the right of free speech and the right to keep and bear arms. I always believed the naturalization process to be fairly rigorous.
Conversations with friends, lead me to other conclusions. My friends simply may not have fully absorbed and internalized the meanings in the United States Constitution. While the Constitution runs only a couple of pages, its meanings are deep and profound. A lot is said in such a concise text. Some of the ideological meaning may have also been lost on the translation from English back to their native language interpretation.
Additionally, Liberals constantly marginalize the importance of the Constitution, so it may not register that the concepts are being undermined, from within. Again, why would the American government leaders do that to it’s own people? To a naturalized American the idea just doesn’t compute. The result is that destructive behaviors and actions of our government, largely go unnoticed or ignored, by my formerly foreign friends.
Welcome Home to America
Welcoming naturalized Citizens into the sometimes brutal, full-contact American political mix is both challenging and rewarding. I encourage my fellow Conservatives to patiently engage and encourage our “newbie” Citizens, presenting the facts and arguments with passion and conviction. Freedom loving people always inherently respect character, honor, and the truth. It’s a shame to think that they might someday have to “escape” their new American home.

I started applying for permanent residence in 2004, and after much money spent and an agonizing wait, my turn still hasn’t come up to file yet because of the ‘backlog’. I am truly here trying to escape from the nanny state in my home country, but since landing in 2002, the change here has been picking up speed in the wrong direction.
Talking to many immigrants here, my impression is that they are here to milk the system. Especially green card lottery ‘winners’. Because they are simply entitled to. Public school, financial assistance while they are looking for a job, any freebie will do. That’s why they vote democrat.
As for me and my house, I can hold my head up and affirm that I have never, nor will I ever, take my ‘entitlements’. Even our children are home-schooled. Our children belong to Christ, not Molech.
