Duverger’s Law: How Third-Party and Independent Candidates Can Win Elections

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

capitolhillBy KAREN Y. MURRAY

Duverger’s Law is often cited by conservative groups as a justification for not endorsing third-party and independent candidates who have successfully passed their strict vetting process. It is the basis of the argument that third party and independent candidates split the conservative vote and allow liberals to win, and therefore there should only be two parties so forces with similar philosophies can combine to defeat the “enemy.” This misunderstanding of the sociological phenomena inherent in various electoral systems, as observed by French sociologist Maurice Duverger, has led to the deterioration of the original Constitutional Republic. Understanding this process and understanding the characteristics of the original electoral system of the United States can help us restore a government where the people, not parties, have the final say in governing themselves.

Tea Party Caucus Used to Further Neocon Agenda

teaparty4By ROBERT STARK

The Tea Party movement started out with liberty activist, most of whom were supporters of Ron Paul and has gained large scale support among Americans frustrated at the Obama administration. The movement is not an official organization but includes organizations which claim to speak for the movement. There is not an official political platform but the overall bent of the movement is for less government and taxes. While it may appear Tea partiers agree on most issues there is strong potential for division within the movement. On foreign policy and movement includes both who supported the War and anti-war activist.

Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann founded a Tea Party Caucus for the US Congress, which now has 44 members all of whom are Republicans. Now the Tea Party will be forced to take a divisive stand on core issues. On illegal immigration and opposition to Wall Street Bailouts Bachmann see’s eye to eye with the Tea Party base; however, Bachmann’s has strong views in regards to Mideast affairs. At an event for The Republican Jewish Coalition said that God will curse American if we “fail to stand with Israel.”

Taking Back New Hampshire

Friday, July 16th, 2010

flagNHBy STEVE Mac DONALD

New Hampshire is turning red again.  If you ask locally, even among some Democrats, the Republicans are taking back both houses of the legislature, should keep Judd Gregg’s Senate seat, and will very likely flip both House seats.  The only job they had not seen themselves taking was the Governorship, but that may be changing.

In the early days of spring the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) spent a little over $200K on a television ad and a web presence (and bumper stickers) based on the idea that ‘Lynch Lied.’  Long story short, governor John Lynch had always said civil unions were fine, but marriage was between a man and a women.  That was until the state legislature managed to twist enough no votes into either abstentions or yeses to finally pass a gay marriage bill in the 400 seat state House of representatives.   Lynch singed it, and in so doing flip-flopped on a major issue.  NOM’s ad pointed this out, as well Mr. Lynch’s balancing the budget with debt, something the governor called balanced, but with which NOM also took issue in the spot.

The War on Poverty is Over. DEMOCRATS LOST.

povertyBy MELISSA WHITTINGTON

I went today to the home of a small Phoenix family, a mother, father, and two sweet, wonderful little girls. I was there to see if I could help them. I was surprised at what I found. Maybe it would be better to say I was shocked and disheartened at what I found. This family is living on welfare. And it’s not a lifestyle I would recommend.

There were not paved drives to the small homes that these people resided in. The front door barely shut, a baby walking around in woolen feety pajamas by himself in the open area. It broke my heart.

Ideology at the DOJ: Sue Arizona, But Tolerate Voter Intimidation

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

By FLORIDA PUNDIT

Attorney General Eric Holder again demonstrates how every one of his decisions is driven by ideology. Two examples have recently made the news.

Today the Obama administration announced that it will file a lawsuit against Arizona’s new immigration law. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had previously announced the Obama administration’s intent in an interview given on TV in Ecuador. The lawsuit doesn’t even make the claim popular among the left that the law is discriminatory in any way. No, the basis for the lawsuit is that Arizona is trying to enforce federal law that the federal government has refused to enforce.

NH Governor John Lynch Goes Gay (Sort of)

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

flagNHBy STEVE Mac DONALD

The Ray and Kathy Show (That’s state Democrat party chair Ray Buckley and his evil sidekick former Dem party Chair Kathy Sullivan)  have this gag they do all the time where they complain about outside money or special interests on the right affecting local elections.   It’s a serious gas because everyone knows it’s actually a projection upon others of their own involvement with deep-pocketed outside interests with which they then exert pressure upon the local worker bees doing the Yeoman’s work to hide their radical left wing agenda.  But they think it works, so we try to play along.   Case in point: Governor John “Liar” Lynch was recently taken to task for saying one thing and doing another on the not uncontroversial subject of same sex marriage.  Lynch flip flopped, and plenty of us asked if someone put the thumb screws on our diminutive chief executive.

No, no.  Lynch is his own man concerned about equality and civil rights, Blah blah blah.

Daria DiGiovanni: One of Facebook’s Most Influential Patriot Women

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

columbiaBy HANK RICHARDS

If the name Daria DiGiovanni isn’t yet familiar to you, chances are you’re not spending much time on social networking sites.

The conservative activist, who describes herself as a ‘passionate patriot, wordsmith and talk radio host,’ was recently named one of the Most Influential Patriot Women of Facebook, thanks to her unyielding participation in the conservative Internet revolution.

DiGiovanni credits her parents for giving her a solid foundation of faith, love of country and respect for the United States military; qualities that translated into action through family involvement in local politics.

While she’s always participated at some level on the political scene as a volunteer for various campaigns, the events of 9/11 inspired her to step up her efforts.

July 4, 2010: Fireworks Provided by John Boehner and Barack Obama

By Rev. MICHAEL BRESCIANI

Only days before America’s Fourth of July celebrations, in Racine Wisconsin President Obama mocked Congressmen John Boehner (R-OH) about his recent remarks. Boehner said the President’s financial reforms were like “using a nuclear weapon to target an ant.”

The fact that Wall St. had a choker applied to it while big offenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac went untouched was never mentioned in Obama’s address. Also not mentioned was the complete failure of this administration’s stimulus packages to stimulate anything but controversy, partisan division and national debt.

When cameras panned across the Racine crowd of Obamerites it was clear they had been handpicked. The mesmerized were anything but a flag waving enthusiastic crowd of Tea Partiers. Complete with snickers and giggles, the President belittled the Congressmen’s remarks by repeating it word for word in an air of mockery. It was juvenile, disrespectful and divisive and it would have been a bit more bearable if it had been preceded with the common advertising disclaimer, “paid spokesperson non client dramatization.”

Living The Liberal Dream

INFILTRAiTOR

By ROB REILLY

Do your own thing, set your own course, and challenge the system when it isn’t right has been the proud rallying cry of Liberals for the last few decades. Enlightenment, the worldly air of knowledge, and righting various wrongs are well within the province of this most righteous and noble cause.

As a youngster, I remember the 1960s. I marched to my own tune, and regularly pushed buttons when I finally arrived in the work world. My right-brain oriented attention span is short and there’s little doubt living in the realm of possibilities is a part of every one of my days. I’ve tested the patience of family, friends, colleagues, and organizations in which I’ve worked. Sometimes I’d go against the grain for the right reasons, sometimes for the wrong ones, sometimes for attention, and sometimes…well…I don’t really know why.

So exactly who’s doing their own thing and promoting freedom these days?  You…me? Definitely not the Liberals.

You the Taxpayer Will Pay for the Obama/BP Mess

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

You will pay for Obama’s oil mess rather than BP because you are a taxpayer and the taxpayers always pay the bill. Always!

Why did it take until June 11th for the President to visit South Mississippi? When does the oil stop flowing? Who’s in charge? Why is there all the red tape for the governors of the affected states to go through to implement their solutions?

The reason is simple. President Obama has absolutely no management skills and failed to act as an executive would in a time of need. He failed to protect our borders and he allowed the people from three government agencies, EPA, Energy and Interior Departments, to continue failure. Maybe this job is way beyond his pay grade.
