Everyone knows that Martin Luther King had a dream. Some people have realized that Glenn Beck has a dream. Fewer still know that Al Sharpton has a dream.

When Glenn Beck says that things in Washington are broken, could he possibly mean it literally?

To say that climbing on a bus with fifty strangers to join a caravan of hundreds of other buses jostling our way up the yellow-brick road to Oz put this Historian out of his comfort zone would not be an understatement; it would be a gross understatement. However, having fallen through the rabbit hole in the fifties and taken the red pill in the sixties, the slow motion train wreck that is the Progressive’s deconstruction of traditional America combined with the light speed transformation of our beloved Republic as a European-style nanny-state since the November Revolution of 08 compelled me to go. Stoked by daily doses of Radio-free Glenn and incited by the daily drip-drip-drip of the government take-overs and serial bail-outs the anticipation has built for months.
Now that the GREAT EVENT is over we have to ask ourselves, “What did we go to Washington to see?”

“We must call upon God, and He will see us through.” — Glenn Beck
America will not survive the political and social trials that are to come if we are not engaged in the fight to protect our Judeo-Christian beliefs and our American way of life. We do not want to become a socialist country by “forcing Peter to give to Paul.”
Redistribution of wealth is immoral. We will head in the wrong direction by continually pushing our nation into socialism. We must stop it at the ballot box.

Why are we all suddenly feeling sorry for Sheila Sherrod, the USDA employee in Georgia who was fired for extremely inflammatory racist statements? This woman is CLEARLY complicit in racist behavior, simply unacceptable from a public servant.
A couple of days ago a video was released of Ms. Sherrod acting as a featured guest speaker at an NAACP event in March. She described a situation in which she was charged with assisting a white farmer. She goes on to say that she was standing and listening to this man talk at length about his issues, and doing his best to be “superior” to her. She goes on to say that while he was bloviating about his supposed superiority, she was thinking about the fact that there were lots of black farmers that had lost their land, and here she was, forced to help a white one. Then she goes on to detail how she refused to give him the full force of her abilities in helping him, and sent him to “one of his own,” a white lawyer trained in how to shove the white farmer through bankruptcy.

As a Professor of History I can understand why most people dismiss History as boring. It is usually presented as a static jumble of dates, names and events that must be memorized, regurgitated and with luck forgotten. I have often marveled at the ability of students who can tell me how many points their favorite athlete scored in a mid-season game ten years ago or how many horsepower their favorite driver had under the hood five seasons back can’t seem to remember the relationship or the difference between the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution.
Instead of this rigid collection of repetitious minutia, History is a dynamic flow of reality that changes every day. Not only is there more of it every day, thus changed by addition, it is also open to new interpretation and comprehension every day, thus changing by multiplication and division.
In Patrick J. Buchanan’s ground breaking book Churchill, Hitler and the Unnecessary War the author presents the case that the Second World War was not precipitated by Germany’s attack upon Poland it was instead precipitated by the worthless guarantee given by Britain and France to an authoritarian Poland, which prevented it from avoiding war by returning the German city of Danzig to Germany. A move even Neville Chamberlain thought would be fair. Then when what would have been the fourth partition of Poland between Germany and the Soviet Union did occur it is forgotten by all that it was France and Britain that declared war on Germany not the reverse. No matter whether you agree or disagree with this presentation of the same facts presented in opposite order as in American History classes or not, anyone would admit at least it made you think.

Talk about a man-caused disaster; have you looked at the recovery lately? The Republicans under the Bush dynasty and the Clinton interlewd paved the way for the current debacle of fiscal debauchery. The only thing growing is the government. Have the Liberals staged a second revolution? Khrushchev predicted the Soviet Union would bury us and since they’re now on the trash heap of history is the Liberal Politburo of leftwing academics, corrupt politicians and their lamestream propaganda machine digging the grave instead?
The Obama administration’s takeover of America’s health care system, the financial industry, the biggest player in the insurance industry, major manufacturing the coming Cap-N-Trade boondoggle, and the soon-to-be-launched drive for import-a-voter immigration reform is a direct assault upon the productive designed to hobble their economic power and limit their personal freedom. The statists know the economically prosperous and individually free people of America stand in the way of their plans to create a centrally-planned economy and the regimented society it requires.

Glenn Beck recently said that giving ‘Birthers’ air time would benefit the Obama administration. Beck said both the idea of radio air time and the Birthers’ arguments were the “dumbest thing I ever heard.”
Beck’s answer to the Birthers’ quest is to take up something else like the constitutionality of health care and the legality of Czars. We have to wonder if Beck has forgotten that we have a democratically controlled House and Senate.
If the best minds of the conservatives were to form the question of constitutionality on these issues who would listen and how would that be voted on in either house? To the rest of us, at least for the moment (until after the 2010 elections) that idea may be the ‘dumbest thing we ever heard of.’
Even among conservative commentators there exists the possibility of some home grown megalomania bred of their own success. We must constantly remind ourselves and our trusted icons of the airwaves that ‘newsmen are not supposed to create our truth for us’ but we expect them only to report it for us.

Sarah Palin made the mistake of being a self-made woman who actually accomplished things in her own right instead of riding her husband’s coattails. She worked next to her husband founding and managing a small business that continues to flourish. She was active in local school and community affairs. She ran for local office serving as a council person and eventually mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. She took on several positions in the state government. She resigned a high office to battle the insiders who had run the state for years. Elected Governor, she was soon the most popular governor in America. She accomplished all this without using a family fortune, marrying for money or buying her way into prominence. She achieved position and influence the old fashioned way; she earned it.
Assault on Free Speech Continues

Remember the promise of transparency that helped win the Presidency? All bills passing Congress would be posted for 5 days before signed. Seems the rules have changed. Apparently the pledge only applied to NON-emergency bills and everything is an emergency in the New Republic. The first bill signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was apparently an emergency. We had to pass the pork-laden stimulus bill before any of the Best-Congress-Money-Can-Buy could read it; otherwise unemployment might reach the unacceptable 8% range though most of the provisions wouldn’t kick in for months or years. The Bums-Rush is also being applied to the nationalization of medicine though the provisions of this monstrosity conveniently won’t overwhelm us until after the next presidential election.
In a direct assault against even the possibility of transparency the Chicago trained attack machine in the West Wing (Chicago’s 51st Ward) decided they have the power to decide what constitutes news. For months they’ve refused to allow anyone on Fox. This started when Chris Wallace had the bad taste to fact-check several statements made by White House officials and then the inexcusably bad taste to mention the official statements didn’t line up with the facts. This was bad enough, but Fox commentator Glenn Beck dared to expose Obama advisor Van Jones as a self-proclaimed communist and then air the Acorn prostitution sting the totally transparent Obama Whitehouse decided it was time to muzzle the only major news network not in the tank. The Obama Whitehouse declared war on Fox News.
